Bauyrzhan Momyshuly (1910-1982)
Bauyrzhan Momyshuly (1910-1982) was a Hero of the Soviet Union, retired colonel, participant in the Great Patriotic War. He fought in the 316th (8th Guards) Infantry Division under the command of I.V. Panfilov. Author of the works Our Family (Abay State Prize named, 1976), Tulegen Tokhtarov, General Panfilov (1963), Moscow Behind Us (1958), based on which at the film studio Kazakhfilm a director M.S. Begalin made a film.
When, after the start of World War II, the 316th Infantry Division under the command of Major General I.V. Panfilov, in late June, Senior Lieutenant B. Momyshuly was appointed as the battalion commander of the 1073th Talgar Rifle Regiment. After the completion of the formation in Alma-Ata in late August, he left with the division to the front. In September 1941, he was transferred to the 52nd separate army with a division and built a defensive line near Malaya Vishera. In connection with the catastrophic start of the battle for Moscow, on October 5, the 316th Infantry Division was raised by alarm and urgently transferred to the Volokolamsk direction, where its first echelons began to arrive on October 10th. As part of the 16th Army of the Western Front, the 316th Infantry Division steadfastly held the defense, entering history under the name of Panfilov’s. Senior Lieutenant Momyshuly during the defense of Moscow participated in 27 battles.
Guards rank
For the unprecedented and massive heroism of the personnel, by the order of the People’s Commissar of Defense of the USSR dated November 8, 1941, the division was awarded the guards rank, and it was named the 8th Guards Rifle Division, and the 1073th Rifle Regiment, in which Bauyrzhan Momyshuly fought and became the 19th Guards Rifle Regiment. During the Wehrmacht’s second general offensive against Moscow from November 16 to 18, 1941, a battalion of senior lieutenant Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, heroically in isolation from the division, fought heroically on the Volokolamsk highway near the village of Matryonino. The skillful leadership of the battalion commander allowed the Germans to be detained at this line for 3 days. After that, the senior lieutenant Momyshuly brought the battalion out of the circle combat-ready.
The heroic battle path of the battalion under the command of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly is described in the artistic and historical book of Alexander Beck Volokolamsk Highway. Momyshuly’s commanding abilities in heavy battles were noticed, and at the end of November he was appointed commander of the regiment personally commander of the 16th Army K.K. Rokossovsky. In the park named after the 28 Panfilov guardsmen, a monument was opened to the Hero of the Soviet Union Baurzhan Momyshuly. The monument was erected by sculptors N. Dalbai and R. Satybaldiev. The figure of B. Momyshuly in full growth is made of bronze, mounted on a granite pedestal. The height of the monument is 6 meters. The monument was built in 2010 to the 100th anniversary of the Hero of the Soviet Union Bauyrzhan Momyshuly.
