Athletes of the international air acrobatics team Red Bull Skydive Team carried out a successful wingsuit flight over Almaty, bypassing the Kok-Tobe TV tower. This is the first wingsuit jump in Kazakhstan. The team visited Kazakhstan for the first time in 2017. Then the athletes made a base jump jump from the roof of the Nur-Sultan skyscraper and noted that they liked Kazakhstan. Marco Waltenspiel, Marco Furst and Daniel De La Blanca visited Almaty for the first time. The flights took place on June 18 and 20 in coordination with all responsible services of the city. The AN-2 aircraft delivered the athletes to the designated ejection point at an altitude of about 4,000 meters, which was geographically located above the Butakovka Gorge. The flight of athletes in the air on wing suites was about two minutes. The athletes rounded the Kok-Tobe TV tower, flying from it only 10m at an altitude of 220m, and landed on a hill. The Almaty Tourism Department, Visit Almaty Company and the city Akimat helped the Red Bull Skydive team to make this unique jump a reality and solve all organizational issues. The Emergency Department of Almaty ensured the safety of the landing points. Wingsuit – “wing suit”, or as it is also called “flying squirrel” – is a professional suit for aerial acrobatics, the design of which allows the incoming air flow to fill the wings between the legs, arms and body of the pilot, allowing the athlete to make a planning flight. The horizontal flight speed develops up to 250 km/h.
